All Roads Lead to Bangkok For Natural Gas Vehicle Demonstration
Clean Convoys Travelling From Korea, Singapore and Malaysia
The Asia Pacific Natural Gas Vehicle Association (ANGVA) is taking transport in Asia into the future, launching a Green Highways project to create integrated routes of “Green Highways” in the Asia-Pacific region. A green highway is the Asia-Pacific equivalent of a ‘Blue Corridor’ transport route where a network of clean alternative fuels refueling infrastructure is available for motorists and fleet operators.
Focusing on natural gas vehicles (NGVs) in particular, the project
seeks to raise public awareness of the benefits of NGVs and emphasize
the environmental and economic benefits of Green Highways for the
region.
Additionally, the project also seeks to highlight gaps in the refueling
infrastructure as well as highlighting the need for the harmonization
of standards and co-operation among the national associations and
government in the Asia Pacific region. ANGVA is seeking to work with
national NGV associations, fuel suppliers and governments to establish
viability of green highways, including infrastructure supporting other
sustainable fuels, in the Asia Pacific region.
The 2007 Green Highways Project will consist of two caravans of NGVs
departing from East and South Routes to arrive concurrently in Bangkok
to coincide with the 27 -29 November 2007 ANGVA Conference and
Exhibition in Bangkok, Thailand. With the conference expected to
attract a large number of political decision makers from around Asia,
the project will to provide a focal point for discussions on measures
needed to increase infrastructure availability.
The two Routes are as follows.
1. East Route – Chuncheon (Korea) to Bangkok
2. South Route – Singapore to Bangkok
As a cooperative effort, champions have volunteered to support and lead
each route. NGVI, Korea, is the team leader for the Eastern route and
SmartEnergy, Singapore is the team leader for the Southern Route. PTT,
the project organizer and host of ANGVA 2007 Conference and Exhibition
is the major sponsor for caravans during the journey and stay in
Thailand.
Each route will be actively seeking sponsorship and further support. If
your organization is interested in taking part or becoming a sponsor
please contact ANGVA or the team leaders or PTT / ANGVA 2007.
About Natural Gas Vehicles: An NGV is a vehicle that uses compressed
natural gas (CNG) or, less commonly, liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a
clean alternative to other automobile fuels. NGVs can reduce exhaust
emissions of carbon dioxide by approx. 70% and Nitrous Oxide by 87%.
Worldwide, there are more than 7 million NGVs worldwide, with the
largest number of NGVs in Argentina, Brazil, and Pakistan. See
www.iangv.org for more information on natural gas vehicles.
